One Trillion Bytes (1TB)

Iomega Silver Series

I’ve bought an external hard drive from Iomega from the Silver Series for €184,-
The short message: that’s el-cheepo! Storage cost diddly-squat nowadays, so this was the time to give my storage a little Oompf. I’ve connected it to my Airport Extreme, so everybody in the familiy is happy. ;)
Just to put it in perspective: the National Archives of Britain, which hold 900 years of written material, contains nearly 60 terabytes of data. What can you do with all those lovely bytes? Here are the tech specs for this drive:

  • Holds 4,000,000 photos
  • Holds 18,500 hours of music
  • Holds 1,500 hours of video
  • USB 2.0 Transfer Rate - 480 Mbits/s
  • Hard Drives = 2 SATA
  • Rotational Speed - 7200 RPM
  • Memory Cache - up to 8MB
  • Format - FAT32
  • Volume Configuration - JBOD

Go, Go Gadget phone

NVidia GoForce

Mobile devices are getting more and more powerful by the year. In this demo NVidia shows off their vision on next-generation mobile phones (at 3GSM). The power behind these graphical capabilities is their new Mobile GoForce line-up. Engadget has a nice article on the subject. Khronos OpenKODE is used for accelerating these vector 2D and 3D graphics. I wouldn’t be surprised if they would become the de facto standard on a lot of mobile devices.

Adobe Lightroom

Adobe Lightroom

Adobe today released a new application called Adobe Lightroom. It will compete with Apple’s Aperture on many fronts, though it’s still in beta stage it looks like a lean, mean and clean application. It’s available now for testing!

Aperture

Apple Aperture

Aperture, a relative new application was added recently to the pro line-up. I have already developed a love-hate relationship with this new Apple pro application! I should concider it just a 1.0 release and hope that this potentially great application will evolve gradually in time. Hopefully Apple will support my Canon EOS 350D soon! In the mean time I’ll have to do with the Raw.plist hack or just shoot in JPEG.

The iPod Family

Our iPod family

I have added an 5G iPod (Video), to our iPod line-up. I was a little skeptical at first, but after having played with it at an Apple Centre I was convinced. The video/audio quality of this device is really amazing!

Canon EOS 350D

Canon EOS 350D Digital Rebel

Okay I had to buy a new camera, a new SLR (Single Lens Reflex) digital. I had a ‘happy snapper’ but i missed my good old Canon EOS 500. So after a little research between Nikon D70 and the Canon EOS 350D, I decided to go for the Silver Canon EOS 350D with USM (Ultrasone Motor) lens. In the the future i’ll buy a IS (Image Stabiliser) USM lens. O, boy what a camera! Soon I will post some pictures made with it…
